Our Philosophy

The International School of Schaffhausen provides quality education in a stimulating and caring environment. We aim to produce life long learners, according to the standards of the International Baccalaureate Organization. We apply the principal of mutually supporting and respecting one another, recognising that we are different personalities with the same basic needs. Students and teachers contribute to making learning an exciting and enriching experience acknowledging that “Each mind has its own method” (Ralph Waldo Emerson).

Living and learning for one world

In this spirit, the curriculum at the International School of Schaffhausen develops internationally-minded people, who do not only respect and celebrate a world of cultural diversity, but take an active part in shaping it. International mindedness allows each individual to take responsibility for their role in making this world a better place.

Diversity and Inclusion at ISSH

The International School of Schaffhausen welcomes and celebrates diversity among our student population for the mutual benefit of all. We support an inclusive model of education that serves a number of students representing a full range of learning profiles including mild, moderate and intensive needs. The goal of our inclusive model is to provide high quality and challenging learning experiences purposefully meeting the needs of all learners. Our philosophy is one of celebrating individuality, be unique and be yourself. The whole community shares common rights and responsibilities, working collaboratively towards fulfilling the ISSH Mission.

Life-long learners

ISSH students are encouraged to be self-motivated in their learning. Teaching and learning is inquiry-based: asking questions, wondering why things are the way they are and making connections. These are the key elements to self-motivated and self-directed learning.

"Each mind has its own method"

Each individual develops their own personal way of processing information. Students learn at their own rate in their own style. In an inquiry-based, yet structured learning environment, students explore their interests and develop their strengths to become successful and self-motivated learners.

OUR VALUES – IB Learner Profile

It is our goal to provide every young person the tools required for a successful future. Life-long learning, self-confidence and cosmopolitanism are not just empty phrases, but values that are lived out and part of our successful graduates. From pre-school age onwards, we encourage each of our protégés to discover their own strengths and how to challenge themselves. Self-confidence and high self-esteem are the basis for this lifelong development. The IB Learner Profile permeates teaching and school interaction at all levels and is at the heart of our educational work.
