BOArding House

  • Indoor and outdoor clothing, including some rain/snow gear and outdoor shoes for hiking.
  • School clothing should be smart casual: Slacks, jeans, skirts and dresses and dressy t-shirts are all acceptable. There is no school uniform.

Electronics: Cell phone (optional), camera (optional), laptop (The school will provide students with a Chromebook)

Currently, the boarding house is open for students who wish to remain during the school holidays.

Students should arrive back in the boarding house the evening before school starts. This allows for the students to unpack and get themselves organised for the week ahead.

Non-boarding students from the ISSH are welcome in the boarding house as guests of a resident boarding student until 21:30. They may visit the room of the invitee provided they are of the same sex, and that all roommates have agreed.All visitors must announce their presence to the Head of Boarding or Staff Member on Duty.

Students have kitchen service twice a week where they assist the Staff Member on Duty with preparation of the meal. This kitchen service will aid in the students’ development as independent and capable individuals, who will be able to care for themselves and others after leaving the ISSH.

There is a washing machine and tumble dryer provided in the house.

ISSH provides laptops for school use to students. The computer is to be used for study purposes and responsible social media and communication only.

The boarding house has self-closing and locking entrance doors. While Schaffhausen is an extremely safe city, some sensible precautions are advised. Valuable items should be handed in to the Head of Boarding for security purposes. The boarding houses are equipped with safes.

Every student is responsible for their own pocket money after discussions with their parents/guardians. The school recommends a budget of no more than CHF 150 per month. Out of this budget must come tickets for travelling, extra materials required for classes, personal shopping, theatre, phone, club memberships, restaurants etc.

The ISSH school bus collects students from the boarding house in the morning and they take the public bus from campus back to the boarding house upon completion of their classes at the end of the day  It is recommended that students purchase a “Halb-Tax” card which entitles the holder to reduced public transport fares. The school and Schaffhausen town are also within walking distance.

When a grade 11/12 finishes their lessons for the day, they may return to the boarding house after informing their Homeroom teacher.

The house key is located in a key safe and must remain there. The code must not be divulged to anyone other than Staff or Boarders of the same house.

Students are not allowed to bring with them, or buy or rent motor vehicles for the duration of their time in the boarding house.This includes, cars, motor bikes, mopeds and scooters.

The Boarding House is open for students from 15 years of age. Younger students have the option of staying with a host family.

We have single or double rooms available.

Study time is planned between 16:30 and 18:00 and 20:00 and 22:00. Students also have free periods during the school day where they can study in the common room at school.

Students need to be back at the house for dinner at 19:00. 

Bedding, including duvets, pillows, and sheets are provided by the school.

There is no school uniform. Smart casual clothing can be worn at school.
