SPOTLIGHT: February 2024

Happy Leap Day! That quirky extra day we get every four years, is like the universe’s way of throwing a little party in our calendar. It’s like a cosmic bonus round when the calendar says, “Surprise! We’re not quite ready for the next month, so here’s an extra day to keep things interesting.” So, cheers to leap day – the wildcard in our otherwise predictable march through the months!

Early Learning Centre

Exposing children at an early age to diverse ways of being ultimately instills compassion, kindness, open-mindedness, and empathy and teaches children how to treat people with respect, regardless of their background. Celebrating these differences also improves their self-confidence and how they see themselves.

Diversity activities teach young children to respect and celebrate the differences in all people. Learning about different cultural aspects offers new experiences for children. It also helps them realise that we’re all humans, despite differences in how we look or dress, or what we eat or celebrate.

We also made learning connections between us as individuals and which countries we come from. This resulted in our department participating in the International day which was a day full of great activities and learning opportunities.

Primary

The first two months of 2024 have offered our Primary students numerous opportunities to grow, fostering the development of their international perspectives, which we strive to support. In early January a few of our students represented ISSH in a mixed football tournament at the International School of Zurich North. Then our Grade 5 students engaged in two more transition days in Secondary, participating in a PE class and an ICT class with Mr. Mayer, where they delved into spreadsheet analysis use. Our Grade 3 students went to Technorama to immerse themselves in the enchanting world of Science, while our Grade 4 students are eagerly anticipating their upcoming visit to the Planetarium, where they will explore the wonders beyond our planet’s borders, perhaps contemplating solutions for a potential “Planet B.” International Day was a highlight for our school community, made possible by the dedicated efforts of our Parents’ Association. Your contributions made this day truly memorable, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude. We are hoping this day supported our students in further understanding the respect needed to build intercultural understanding.

And of course, we can not forget our Primary skating day! This day provided a delightful opportunity for us to come together,  enjoy each other’s company, and refine our skating abilities. As we look ahead, we eagerly await the adventures that spring holds for us!
