Interview with Ebru Güver

Podcast EN 3

Five students from the Middle and High school interviewed Ms. Güver, our new Head of School. Ms. Güver has been at the school for almost 20 years and today the students would like to find out more about her. Prior to this interview, the students had the opportunity to meet with our Head to talk to her about her time at school and take a look at her report cards.

How are you feeling as the new head of school?
I’m feeling very excited about this role and the opportunity to serve my community, school, staff and all stakeholders.

What are you particularly looking forward to in your new position?
I’m particularly looking forward to some development and I believe that we are at the threshold of growing. We have seen a huge growth in our childcare and kindergarten in the past few years and we are currently building a third floor in the Secondary building to expand in this department.  We will also bring the Science department over to this space in newly furnished Science laboratories.

We will also continue to ensure, myself and the staff, that our curriculum facilitates a range of learning experiences for each grade level, to support the needs of our students and to make learning fun. This is particularly important to me.

So what ideas do you have to develop the school even further?
At the moment we are in the process of offering a High School Diploma with MSA recognition (Middle School Association accreditation) in addition to our IB Diploma. This will help our students as it provides an additional option at the end of your school career, and will open more University doors. I’m also planning, together with the faculty, to have a stronger connection with the local community. This will allow us to have a stronger exchange and therefore access many resources that can benefit our students and also local students. We are present but we can always enhance this in the Schaffhausen and global community. Switzerland has many international schools and we are a member of the SGIS, the Swiss Group of International Schools, and that would also be an intention of ours; to cooperate and work more closely with them and our school.
